The Ghana Education Service (GES) has expressed its heartfelt condolences to the family of Stacy Okyere, a first-year student at Aburi Girls' Senior High School, who tragically passed away on February 4, 2024, after a brief illness on campus.
In a statement signed by Mrs. Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of the Public Relations Unit at GES, and issued to the Ghana News Agency, the GES extended its sympathies to the bereaved family during this challenging time.
The statement noted that an internal investigation is currently underway, with GES management collaborating with law enforcement agencies to conduct an independent inquiry into the matter.
Furthermore, the leadership of GES has taken proactive measures to provide support to the school community. A nine-member team of counsellors has been deployed to augment the Guidance and Counseling Department of the school, offering psychosocial support to both students and staff affected by the loss.
Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director-General of GES, led a delegation to Aburi Girls' SHS on Monday, February 12, 2024. The delegation visited the residence of the bereaved family to offer condolences and support. Additionally, they inspected the school's fifteen-bed infirmary and engaged with the nurses on duty.
The GES reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all students, assuring stakeholders and the public of its continuous efforts in this regard.
