NHIA North East Region reviews 2025 performance, records rise in active membership

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), North East Regional Office, has held its 2025 Annual Performance Review Meeting and Awards Ceremony under the theme: “Achieving Universal Health Coverage in 2026: a Collective Responsibility.”

The meeting brought together NHIA regional management, regional and district office staff, external stakeholders and development partners in the health sector to discuss strategies for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The NHIA Regional Acting Director, Salifu Abraham, commended staff for their contributions to the 2025 achievements. He said the region recorded an increase in active membership from 54.8 per cent in 2024 to 66.3 per cent in 2025. He attributed the progress to collective staff effort, stakeholder support, and the leadership of Dr Victor Asare Bampoe’s Executive Management.

He also highlighted challenges, including inadequate staff across the region and a lack of satellite offices, and appealed to Executive Management for intervention. He further urged staff and stakeholders to deepen collaboration to improve healthcare access.

During the awards ceremony, the East Mamprusi District Office was recognised for outstanding performance in advancing UHC and achieving its indigent registration target. Other hardworking staff and district offices were also honoured for their contributions to the region’s performance.

Chairman for the occasion, Sulemana Elijah, commended the region’s achievements and encouraged continued commitment towards UHC. Savannah Regional Director, Abudulai Kasimu, also praised the North East Region for its resilience and determination.

On behalf of the Regional Minister, Regional Coordinating Director Peprah Augustine commended the NHIA regional performance and praised Executive Management for programmes aimed at achieving UHC.
