Mr Philip Ennin, Engineer, Network Field Service at MTN Ghana, has linked ongoing network disruptions in parts of the Bono Region to repeated fibre optic cable cuts and the theft of telecom poles.
Speaking at MTN’s 2025 media and stakeholders’ forum in Sunyani, he disclosed that the region had recorded 211 fibre cuts this year alone, a situation he said continues to undermine service quality and calls for stronger community vigilance.

Mr Ennin noted that the stealing of telecom poles has become widespread in areas such as Drobo in Jaman South, Sampa in Jaman North, and Nkrankwanta in Dormaa West District, forcing the company to replace 77 poles this year. He added that one suspect had been arrested in relation to the thefts.
He further explained that rising insecurity in parts of the region is hindering MTN technicians from accessing affected sites for repair works, slowing restoration efforts and prolonging service interruptions.
Mr Ennin appealed to residents to support the company in addressing the challenges, emphasising that collaboration with local communities is essential to improving the quality and consistency of telecommunication services.
He assured the public that MTN is working to stabilise network connectivity while expanding its service footprint across the region.
With the Christmas season approaching, he urged customers to remain alert to mobile money fraud, warning against engaging suspicious callers. He encouraged subscribers to block unknown numbers and activate two-step verification to secure their accounts.
