Speaking to the Ghana News Agency during the launch of the 100th anniversary celebration of the Keta Municipal Hospital, Mr. Seade said the project formed part of a government directive to allocate 10 per cent of the District Common Fund annually for the construction of CHPS compounds.
“The directive is from President John Dramani Mahama to use 10 per cent of the District Common Fund to construct CHPS compounds in two different communities every year,” he stated.
Mr. Seade added that the initiative would help eliminate communicable diseases, expand health education, and reduce the burden of travelling long distances to access healthcare.
He revealed that Seva and Tengekope communities would benefit from the 2025 edition of the initiative, noting that preparations were underway to secure land for the projects.
“Indeed, quality health is the cornerstone of every nation, and the NDC government is a listening one that will always prioritise the well-being of its citizens through the provision of accessible healthcare centres among others,” he said.
Mr. Seade further pledged that the Keta Municipal Assembly would implement measures to support the Keta Municipal Hospital and called on individuals, corporate entities, and development partners to assist in upgrading facilities at the hospital.
He also mentioned that the government would consider a proposal to rename the Keta Municipal Hospital after the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, a native of Keta, in recognition of his contribution to healthcare development in the area.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Faruk Iddrissu, the Keta Municipal Hospital Administrator, highlighted the hospital’s infrastructural challenges, citing the need for urgent renovation of the laundry, dental unit, female ward, eye unit theatre, and children’s ward, among others.
He commended the government and private sector partners for their continued support, including the establishment of a new Infectious Diseases Centre, the MTN Ghana Foundation’s 60-bed Maternity and Child Health Complex, and donations from Amiki Club, Duamenefa Foundation, and Glory Oil Limited.
Additionally, Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, Paramount Chief of the Amugo-Vego Traditional Area and Dufia of Anyako-Konu, was praised for his contribution toward establishing and equipping a dialysis unit at the hospital.
The event also featured the unveiling of the logo, cloth, and T-shirt for the hospital’s centenary celebration, scheduled for 2026, with the participation of government officials, development partners, and corporate bodies.
