Kpanamuuna, (Upper West) – Residents of Kpanamuuna in the Wa East District have appealed to the government to rehabilitate the road linking the community to market and health centres in neighbouring areas, particularly Wa.
They said the poor condition of the roads was affecting farming, access to healthcare and education, especially during the rainy season.

In an interview with journalists, Naa Mwamkuli Kumbampon Mahama, an opinion leader at Kpanamuuna, said the area faced several challenges, but the state of the road remained their main concern.
“The road situation gets worse during the rainy season. People from this community are not able to move to other communities during the rainy season,” he said.
He explained that farmers were forced to sell their produce at low prices because of the road network, which was affecting their income since most residents depended on farming.
Naa Mahama said the condition of the roads had also delayed access to healthcare, resulting in preventable deaths.
He stated that members of the community mobilised resources to build a health facility to reduce the difficulty of accessing services in other towns. However, he said the facility lacked essential supplies, particularly medicines.
He appealed to the Wa East District Health Directorate to provide the required consumables and health personnel to improve service delivery at the facility.
Ms Rashida Ahmadu, a resident, said that during the rainy season they were unable to transport farm produce to the market because vehicles could not reach the community.
She said the health facility often ran out of medicines and referred patients to Wa, Busa or Kpaglahi to purchase drugs, which delayed treatment.
Ms Ahmadu said some teachers declined postings to the community because of the poor road conditions.
Mr Peter Sortro Mwinisiir, the Assembly Member for the area, said political leaders were aware of the challenges but little action had been taken.
He said promises made by politicians during election campaigns had not been fulfilled, leaving rural communities such as Kpanamuuna facing ongoing difficulties.
