Four GNA journalists nominated as 29th GJA Media Awards shortlist unveiled ahead of Manhyia Palace ceremony

Four journalists from the Ghana News Agency (GNA) have earned nominations for the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards scheduled for Saturday, November 8, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The nominees are Albert Oppong Ansah, Editor; Issifu Dasmani Laary, Eastern Regional Manager; James Amoh Junior, Chief Reporter; and Solomon Gumah, Reporter.

At a press briefing in Accra, GJA President Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour announced that the Awards Committee received 321 entries, from which 38 were shortlisted. He commended the Committee for its diligence within a tight timeframe and confirmed that preparations for the event were complete.

This year’s ceremony, to be hosted by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will feature President John Dramani Mahama and a host of national and international dignitaries. Prestigious categories include the GJA/P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year, Best Female Journalist of the Year, Komla Dumor Most Promising Journalist of the Year, and Best Student Journalist of the Year. The event is themed “Safeguarding Ghana’s Future: The Role of the Media in Promoting Peace, Security and the Fight Against Galamsey.”

The Awards Committee is chaired by Mr Gabriel Bosompem, Former Commissioner of the National Media Commission and Former Production Manager at TV3. Committee members include Madam Agnes Boye-Doe, Deputy News Editor of GNA; Mr Kingsley Obeng-Kyere of GBC and 2012 GJA/P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year; Nana Yaa Konadu of Peace FM; and Madam Theresa Owusu Ako, Former Head of Radio News at GBC. Additional members are Mr David Andoh of Multimedia and President of the Ghana Photojournalists Network; Alhaji Salifu Abdul Rahaman of the Ghanaian Times; Mr Samuel Bio of the Graphic Communications Group; and Mr Jeorge Wilson Kingston of PRINPAG.
