In his sermon, the Bishop of Wa, Most Rev. Francis Bomansaan, M.Afr., commended the Speaker for his exceptional statesmanship and deep commitment to the welfare of the underprivileged.
He described Rt. Hon. Bagbin as a selfless servant leader and a virtuous Catholic, noting that both the Upper West Region and Ghana as a whole are privileged to have him as Speaker of Parliament.
A citation presented to the Speaker praised him as a Christ-like leader who embodies humility, service, love, and integrity. It highlighted his honesty and moral uprightness, describing him as a towering figure whose character shines in an era where truth and integrity are increasingly rare among public servants.
In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Bagbin expressed profound gratitude to the Catholic Church for the honour and called for continued prayers and spiritual guidance for the leadership of the country.
He acknowledged the significant role the Catholic Church has played in Ghana’s development, particularly in underprivileged regions such as the Upper West.
The Speaker described the Church as a foundation stone of development in Northern Ghana and commended its longstanding contributions to education and healthcare through the establishment and management of some of the region’s best schools and health facilities.
Rt. Hon. Bagbin encouraged the Church to continue its mission of caring for both the spiritual and material needs of the underprivileged. He reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to supporting the laudable initiatives of religious bodies and organisations across the country.
The ceremony concluded with prayers led by the Bishop and a congregation of priests, seeking good health and God’s blessings for the Speaker.
