Police intercept 50,000 rounds of ammunition in Upper West

The Upper West Regional Police Command has intercepted a commercial vehicle transporting 50,000 rounds of ammunition through an unapproved route outside Wa and arrested three suspects.

In a press release issued on July 1, 2026, the Police said the interception took place on June 29, 2026.

A search of the vehicle led to the retrieval of 200 boxes of AA cartridges, equivalent to 50,000 rounds, concealed beneath other goods.

The Police identified the suspects as Alhassan Issahaku, Iddrisu Mashood and Alhaji Issahaku.

According to the Command, the suspects are in custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to establish the source of the ammunition and arrest any other persons connected to the transportation.

The Regional Police Command commended the professionalism and integrity of the officers involved in the operation and assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, preventing crime and maintaining peace and security in the region.

It also urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support efforts to combat crime.
