Community Protection Assistants

A total of 1,740 young people from the Volta, Oti, and Eastern Regions have successfully graduated as Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) programme, reinforcing national efforts to support the Ghana Police Service in maintaining peace, safety, and order.

The second batch of 795 recruits passed out at the Volta Regional Police Training School in Ho after weeks of rigorous training in community policing, ethics, traffic management, and human rights. This follows the graduation of 945 recruits earlier on August 9, bringing the total to 1,740 within a month.

Reviewing Officer for the parade, Volta Regional Minister Mr. James Gunu, lauded the initiative as a product of strategic collaboration under the leadership of H.E. John Dramani Mahama. He urged the graduates to serve with integrity, humility, and discipline, noting that their presence must inspire public confidence and community trust.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Wisdom Akorli, Volta Regional Police Commander, commended the recruits for their dedication and highlighted their training in criminal law, intelligence gathering, women’s rights, and client management. He said CPAs would play a crucial role in bridging the gap between communities and the police through crime prevention, neighbourhood watch schemes, and public safety campaigns.

Volta Regional YEA Director, Mr. Daniel Hamenu, praised the graduates and explained that the CPA programme, one of YEA’s flagship initiatives, aims to recruit 12,000 CPAs annually across six training centres nationwide. He added that outstanding recruits could be absorbed into the Ghana Police Service after their two-year contract.

The graduates are now set to be deployed to their respective regions, where they will help protect lives, safeguard property, and enhance peace and order in their communities.
