Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo

A teacher was burned alive, and three others lost their lives in violent attacks on the Nanik and Nganme Gberuk communities in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo district of the North East Region. Six others sustained gunshot wounds in the raid, which took place on the morning of Friday, February 28.

The attacks, believed to be linked to a chieftaincy dispute, saw armed assailants storm the communities, setting houses ablaze and shooting at residents.

One of the victims, a Mamprusi teacher in the Nanik community, was asleep when attackers torched his home. Trapped inside, he was unable to escape and was burned beyond recognition. Disturbing images of his charred remains circulated on social media, fueling speculation that his death was connected to the Mamprusi-Bimoba conflict in Bawku.

However, his family has rejected these claims, insisting he was an innocent victim of the violence. Speaking to Channel One News, a relative of the deceased called for caution among workers in the area, advising them to leave temporarily until calm is restored.

The teacher was laid to rest this morning in his community.

Authorities are yet to comment on the attacks as tensions remain high in the affected areas.
