Government prioritises underserved districts in nationwide health recruitment exercise

The Government of Ghana has announced a large-scale health sector recruitment exercise focused on deploying professionals to underserved districts nationwide.

The initiative, outlined by Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, aims to ensure a more equitable distribution of healthcare personnel across all regions.

Priority areas include districts in the Northern Region, Savannah Region, Upper East Region, Upper West Region, Oti Region, and North East Region, where most districts have been classified as underserved. Selected districts in the Greater Accra Region and Ashanti Region have also been identified.

The recruitment will introduce a self-posting system, allowing applicants to select preferred districts based on available vacancies, attend interviews locally, and receive appointment letters upon successful completion.

The process will be conducted through a controlled online portal with capped district slots, which will close automatically once filled. The portal will be opened in phases across regions to ensure orderly participation and transparency.

PIN verification will run from April 15 to April 20, followed by application, district selection, and interviews.

The Minister indicated that between 16,000 and 20,000 health professionals will be recruited, making it one of the largest exercises in recent years.

The initiative is aligned with efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and improve access in rural and hard-to-reach communities, although no specific incentive packages have been announced for postings to such areas.
