NE Region Police, NACOC intercept 1,195 boxes of Tramadol, Six arrested

The North East Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), has intercepted one thousand one hundred and ninety-five boxes of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg, popularly known as “Red,” during an intelligence-led operation at Gbintri near Nalerigu in the North East Region. The incident occurred on 18th September 2025 and has so far led to the arrest of six suspects.

According to the police, the suspects, identified as Alhassan Braimah, Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Iddrisu, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik, were arrested after two trucks with registration numbers GR 1712-16 and AW 4417-14 were intercepted. The vehicles, which had reportedly been loaded from Sankase in the Republic of Togo, were en route to Gbintri when officers carried out the operation. A thorough search of one of the trucks, registered GR 1712-16, uncovered the boxes of Tramadol concealed among other goods.

All six suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to trace and arrest other persons believed to be connected to the case.

The seized exhibits have been secured for evidential purposes as the police continue to build their case. In a statement, the North East Regional Police Command assured the public of its firm resolve to clamp down on drug trafficking and called on members of the public to continue volunteering information to help law enforcement combat the menace of illicit drugs.
