The development has triggered coordinated retaliatory actions by cartel groups across several Mexican states.
According to the Ministry, the unrest has been marked by armed confrontations, the burning of vehicles, and road blockades, leading to casualties and widespread disruption of daily activities.
Ghanaian nationals travelling to or residing in affected areas have been urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid non-essential movement. The states identified as impacted include Jalisco, Baja California, Colima, Guanajuato, Michoacán, and Oaxaca.
The Government of Ghana has advised citizens within the jurisdiction to maintain regular contact with the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C., which is concurrently accredited to Mexico, for consular support if necessary.
The Embassy’s emergency hotline has been provided as +1 (202) 709 0568.
In its statement, the Government of the Republic of Ghana conveyed solidarity with the Government of the United Mexican States and expressed confidence in the capacity of Mexican authorities to restore order.
The Ministry indicated that further updates will be communicated as the situation develops.
