Ada, Sept. 11, GNA – The Ada District Police Command Patrol team has intercepted two tipper trucks loaded with 248 maxi bags of cocoa beans suspected to be smuggled.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu, Head of the Public Relations Unit of the Tema Police Command, in a statement, said the trucks were stopped on Tuesday, September 10, 2025, at about 1700 hours near the Ada Senior High School at Big-Ada.

The double-axle trucks, with registration numbers GN 6953-22 and GR 9877-12, were driven by Solomon Tetteh, aged 28, and Nicholas Tetteh, aged 27. A search of the vehicles uncovered the 248 bags of cocoa beans concealed in jute and nylon sacks.

The Police said the suspected owner of the consignment, Stephen Okronipa, aged 36, together with the two drivers, had been arrested and detained, while the vehicles were impounded. The cocoa beans have since been handed over to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) in Tema for safekeeping.

The Command warned the public, especially transporters and traders, against engaging in smuggling activities, stressing that offenders and their accomplices would face the full rigours of the law.

The GNA gathered that COCOBOD has, in the last two years, struggled with the smuggling of cocoa beans, particularly across the border into Togo, due to price differentials
