The Ghana Prisons Service has received a donation of medication from Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited to support healthcare delivery within its facilities.

The donation, received on April 10, 2026, included quantities of Xferon syrup, a haematinic used to treat and prevent iron deficiency. Items presented comprised 34 cartons of 200ml Xferon, 201 cartons of 150ml Xferon, and an additional 65 cartons of 150ml Xferon.

The consignment was received at the Prisons Headquarters in Accra by Francis Omane-Addo, who expressed appreciation for the support toward inmate welfare and institutional healthcare. The donation is expected to strengthen the Service’s capacity to manage anaemia-related conditions.

In a separate development, the Winneba Local Prison, in collaboration with the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, organised a blood donation exercise to support the hospital’s blood bank.

A total of 44 potential donors were screened, with 30 successfully donating blood, while 14 were deferred.

The initiative forms part of efforts to support healthcare delivery within the Effutu Municipality, particularly in response to increased demand for blood due to emergency cases along the Accra–Winneba highway.
