Held under the theme “Mental Health in the Workplace,” the event brought together mental health advocates, management, staff and other stakeholders to discuss ways of promoting mental wellness in workplaces and communities.
Dr Bampoe stated that many employees silently struggle with stress, anxiety, emotional exhaustion, financial pressures and personal challenges while trying to meet workplace expectations.
He stressed the need for institutions to move beyond rhetoric and create environments where workers feel supported, listened to and valued.
According to him, healthcare extends beyond physical wellness, noting that people may appear physically healthy while facing emotional and psychological difficulties.
Referencing the World Health Organisation definition of health, he urged institutions to pay equal attention to mental and social well-being.
Dr Bampoe also linked employee welfare to effective healthcare delivery, stating that efforts to strengthen primary healthcare and improve client experience would not succeed if workers are mentally overwhelmed.
He further raised concerns about the stigma surrounding mental health, noting that fear, shame and lack of awareness often prevent people from seeking help early.
The Acting Deputy Director of Marketing and Branding at the Corporate Affairs Directorate, Ms Angela Aseidu, also underscored the importance of prioritising mental health in workplaces and called for equal attention to mental and physical well-being.
Other stakeholders at the event also expressed support for efforts to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and promote supportive work environments.
