Police arrest six suspects in Upper West armed robbery crackdown

The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with an armed robbery syndicate operating in parts of the Wa West District and Wa Municipality.

The arrests followed months of intelligence-led coordinated operations after a series of armed robbery incidents in which victims were attacked, wounded with machetes and forced to disclose their Mobile Money (MoMo) Personal Identification Numbers (PINs). The PINs were then used to transfer money from the victims’ accounts to the robbers’ MoMo accounts.

The six suspects are Amadu Moro, 35; Adama Yussif, 40; Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 52, deceased; Iddrissu Adama, 35; Korika Issaka, 20; and Zakaria Brigi, 21.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Adama Yussif, Amadu Moro and the deceased, Nasiru Abdul Rahman, who were key members of the gang, are linked to robbery incidents at Kpenateng Junction on August 1, 2026; Kulkpara-Dapoha on June 19, 2026; Kpenateng Community on June 15, 2026; and Piisi Dapoha on May 23 and March 27, 2026.

Police investigations have so far established that approximately GH¢22,070 in cash was robbed from victims, while an additional GH¢3,274 was siphoned through the MoMo accounts of victims.

The Police have also retrieved seven mobile phones from the suspects, which are being subjected to further examination as part of the ongoing investigations.

During the operation, suspect Nasiru Abdul Rahman sustained injuries and died upon arrival at the Upper West Regional Hospital. His body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Two other suspects linked to the robbery syndicate are currently at large. They are Haruna, 30, who is alleged to serve as the armourer of the gang, and Amadu Mahamudu, 24, the son of the deceased suspect.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has intensified efforts to locate and arrest the two wanted suspects.

The Command has urged residents, particularly those in communities affected by recent robbery incidents, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the Police.

It has also appealed to the public to cooperate with investigators by providing credible information that could assist in locating the two wanted suspects and preventing further criminal activities.
