The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says personnel from the Anyinam Fire Station responded to a tanker accident at Anyinam Railway Station on Sunday, May 24, 2026, following a distress call received at about 2:35 a.m.

The Fire Service said the crew found a petrol tanker carrying 45,000 litres of fuel with registration number BF-9373-03 overturned in a muddy ditch.

The team conducted an assessment for fuel spillage, fire risk and casualties, and also carried out cooling operations to prevent ignition.

The driver, who was travelling from Tema to Burkina Faso, reportedly sustained minor injuries after the vehicle veered off the road.

The GNFS said rescue and standby operations continued on May 25 and 26 under the supervision of District Fire Commander DOI Michael George Korda until arrangements were made to tow the tanker.

According to the Fire Service, the tanker sustained partial damage estimated at GH¢70,000, while the salvaged fuel was valued at GH¢400,000.

The operation ended at 8:30 p.m., with personnel returning safely to base at 8:34 p.m.

The Ghana Police Service and the National Road Safety Authority were also at the scene, while investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
