In recent years, Mr Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has faced blame from Ghanaian football fans for the disappointing performances of various national teams.
The latest wave of criticism follows the Black Meteors‘ failure to advance in the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, crushing Ghana's hopes of returning to the Olympics for the first time since 2004.
Since assuming office in 2019, Kurt Okraku's tenure has been marked by poor results for the national teams. The Black Stars were unable to progress beyond the group stages in both the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The junior national teams, including the U-17 and U-20 squads, also failed to qualify for major African championships, suffering embarrassing defeats.
Additionally, the Black Galaxies' underwhelming performance at the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN), despite reaching the quarterfinals, further contributed to the discontent among football fans.
Numerous Ghanaian football enthusiasts have taken to social media platforms to express their dissatisfaction with Kurt Okraku's leadership as GFA President.
Criticisms range from accusations of destroying Ghanaian football to lacking vision and demonstrating arrogance and disgrace.
Despite the criticism, Kurt Okraku intends to seek another four-year term in the upcoming GFA elective congress scheduled for later this year.
His only current contender is former GFA Vice President George Akwasi Afriyie, as the football community awaits the outcome of the congress and the potential direction of Ghanaian football.
