Daddy Lumba’s Death Sparks Family Feud Over Widowhood Rites and Property, Sister Speaks Out

Accra, Ghana. October 20, 2025 .
A revealing interview with Ernestina Akosua Brimpomaa Fosu, elder sister of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Ofosu (Daddy Lumba), has shed light on the complex family structure, inheritance issues, and ongoing disputes surrounding the musician’s death.

1. Family Background and Structure

Fosu disclosed that her brother fathered 11 children with four different women, two of whom have since remarried. Some of his children reside in Canada and Germany, where he provided regular support.

“My brother gave birth to 11 children with four women. Two of the women are now married to other men. Some of the children are in Canada and they are older. Some are still in school,” she stated.

2. Widowhood Rites and Legal Tensions

A major source of contention has been the widowhood rites.

  • Akosua Serwaa, Lumba’s legally wedded wife, has reportedly initiated legal proceedings to be the sole woman permitted to perform the rites according to cultural custom.
  • Ernestina Fosu confirmed her support for Serwaa’s stance, acknowledging her as her brother’s legally recognised spouse.

“She told the family she wanted to be the only woman to perform the widowhood rites. I didn’t see anything wrong with that because I know her as my brother’s legal wife,” she said.

3. Disputes Over Properties and Exclusion

Fosu further alleged attempts by some relatives to exclude key family members, including Serwaa and the musician’s children abroad, from funeral plans. She accused others of focusing on Lumba’s assets rather than mourning or investigating the cause of death.

“When he passed, people were just thinking about his properties. I need to know the actual cause of death before we bury my brother,” Fosu lamented.

4. Call for Clarity on Cause of Death

According to Fosu, conflicting accounts have emerged regarding her brother’s passing. She insists that the family must uncover the true cause of death before any burial can proceed.

“For someone like Charles, he cannot die just like that… I need to know the actual cause of death before we bury my brother.”
