ECG intensifies compliance with annual maintenance plan in Accra

The Limited (ECG), West region, has ramped up efforts to adhere to the Company's Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP), aimed at ensuring the reliability and efficiency of its electrical network infrastructure.

The AMP serves as a strategic guideline detailing specific maintenance activities, including the monitoring and upkeep of overhead conductors, underground cables, and substation equipment such as transformers, switchgears, and extensible switches.

During a planned maintenance visit to the “A201” substation at Mama's Inn, Dansoman, Mr. Emmanuel Ankrah, the West Regional Engineer, emphasized the importance of regular compliance with the AMP, which mandates quarterly visits to technical equipment for routine inspection, maintenance exercises, and defect correction.

To enhance adherence to the AMP, the Accra West region has implemented strategies such as night monitoring and the deployment of additional teams to supplement the existing technical maintenance team.

Mr. Ankrah noted an increased demand for electricity in certain communities, particularly during peak load hours, attributed in part to recent heat waves. As a response, transformers experiencing high demand have been earmarked for upgrade or reinforcement to alleviate load pressure and ensure more reliable power supply.

Mr. Emmanuel Akinie, the General Manager for the Accra West Region, assured customers of the region's commitment to maintaining uninterrupted electricity distribution despite localized faults. Fault response teams have been strategically positioned to promptly address customer complaints, repair faults, and restore power supply across all operational districts.

The implementation of the AMP is expected to reduce the frequency of localized faults leading to outages while prolonging the lifespan of technical equipment. Additionally, monitoring the load on each distribution transformer, especially during peak hours, enables better management of electricity distribution.

The Accra West region encompasses eight operational districts, namely Ablekuma, Achimota, Amasaman, Bortianor, Dansoman, Kaneshie, Korlebu, and , with a total of 2,802 distribution transformers, including both pole-mounted and ground-mounted units.
