A driver, Akwasi Osei, involved in a fatal accident that resulted in the death of an unidentified pedestrian, has been granted bail of GH₵50,000.00 with two sureties by the Kaneshie District Court.
Osei's plea was not taken during the hearing due to the severity of the incident, and he is scheduled to make his next appearance on March 11, 2024.
According to Police Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, the incident occurred on January 13, 2024, around 20:20 hours when Osei, driving a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus with registration number GE 6741-22, struck a male adult pedestrian near Regency Hotel on Liberation Road.
The pedestrian, approximately 35 years old, was crossing the road from the offside to the nearside edge.
The victim suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival by the medical officers.
The body has been deposited at the hospital's mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
Following investigations, the driver was provisionally charged and brought before the court.
