CLOGSAG urges government to conclude salary negotiations for Civil and Local Government Staff: Ghana News

Mr. Isaac Bampoe Addo, Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association Ghana (), has called on the Government to expedite negotiations on the salaries and conditions of service for Civil and Local Government staff.

Speaking during the Thanksgiving Service of the Association in on Thursday, Mr. Addo emphasized the need for the government to address the economic challenges faced by workers in 2022 and the subsequent negative impact in 2023. He urged swift action to remedy the situation in the coming year.

“It is time for the Government to finalize negotiations on our salaries and other conditions of service so that our heads can be above water,” Mr. Addo stated.

Highlighting the harsh economic downturn experienced by Ghana in 2022 and its repercussions in 2023, he pointed out the adverse effects on workers. Factors such as fluctuating fuel prices, escalating utility bills, rising food prices, and increasing rent charges have collectively eroded the remuneration of civil servants.

Mr. Addo underscored the historic neglect of the Civil Service at both the Central and Local levels of governance, emphasizing the need to rectify the situation. He mentioned that the negative impact of the politicization of services has been a long-standing concern and reiterated the call for the government to eliminate political influences within the Civil Service.

“The National Executive Committee of would be convened immediately after the festivities to address the concerns of members,” he added.

Pastor Bayo, Chaplain of CLOGSAG, delivered a sermon encouraging Ghanaians to express gratitude for God's goodness regardless of economic challenges. Quoting from Psalms 100:3-4, he emphasized the significance of thanksgiving as a key to seeking God's attention for a triumphant entry into the .

Representatives from the Civil Service and Local Government Service conveyed goodwill messages during the event, acknowledging CLOGSAG's leadership for their efforts to improve the conditions of their members.
