Bring back road tolls to raise money to fix roads, provide jobs for physically challenged – Concerned Drivers

The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana is urging the government to include the reintroduction of road tolls in its upcoming 2024 budget, set to be presented to on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

The association is also emphasizing the critical need for increased funding dedicated to addressing the state of deteriorating roads across the country.

In an interview with , David Agboado, the public relations officer for the association, underscored the importance of the government taking decisive action to tackle road infrastructure challenges.

“Our roads are very deplorable, and the government should fix them and bring back the toll service so that our physically challenged brothers and sisters will also get work to do and get proceeds to fix the roads,” stated Mr Agboado.

Highlighting the potential benefits of reintroducing road tolls, he suggested that the generated revenue could be specifically allocated for essential road repairs.

Moreover, Agboado pointed out that many workers, particularly persons with disabilities, would benefit from such initiatives.

As Ghana awaits the presentation of the government's budget and economic policy by the Minister of Finance, , on Wednesday, the Concerned Drivers Association's call serves as a plea for strategic financial measures to address both road infrastructure challenges and employment opportunities, particularly for the physically challenged population.
