Ghana’s accession to the ACWL marks a significant milestone in strengthening the country’s capacity to effectively participate in the multilateral trading system. Membership will provide Ghana with enhanced access to high-quality legal advice, training and support on WTO law, including dispute settlement, thereby reinforcing the country’s ability to protect its trade and development interests.
The move reflects Ghana’s commitment to a rules-based, inclusive and development-oriented multilateral trading system, and aligns with government efforts to strengthen trade governance, promote export diversification, and support industrialisation and the growth of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
The Government expressed appreciation to the Advisory Centre on WTO Law for its cooperation, as well as to the Government and People of Norway for their financial support, which made Ghana’s accession possible.
Special recognition was also extended to the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, for her leadership and determination in ensuring the successful completion of the accession process before the end of the year.
The Government of Ghana has expressed optimism about a strong and productive partnership with the ACWL, particularly in building legal expertise, supporting dispute settlement engagement and reinforcing confidence in a fair, rules-based multilateral trading system.
