President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the Tema Integrated Industrial Park (TIIP), a flagship project aimed at accelerating Ghana’s industrialisation and strengthening its position as a regional manufacturing and export hub.

The ceremony was held in Tema on Tuesday, June 30.

President Mahama said industrialisation is now an economic necessity and called on project partners to deliver a modern industrial enclave that builds on Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s vision for the Tema industrial zone.

Located about seven kilometres from the Tema Port, the 83.5-hectare industrial park is expected to boost manufacturing, processing, logistics and exports while enhancing Ghana’s competitiveness under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare described the project as a strategic investment that will position Ghana as a leading industrial hub in West Africa.

She said the park would promote value addition, import substitution and export-oriented manufacturing.

The Minister also announced Cabinet approval of four sector-specific policies to support the project and attract investment. They are the Ghana Textiles and Garments Manufacturing Policy, Ghana Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Policy, Automotive Components Manufacturing Policy and the National Agribusiness Policy (2026–2036).

She said the policies will provide regulatory certainty, attract anchor industries and support sustainable industrial growth and job creation.

The project is being developed through a partnership between TDC Ghana Limited, the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) and ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms.

The industrial park is expected to create more than 4,000 direct jobs and generate significant economic activity across multiple sectors.

Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
