Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, an aspiring presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 elections, has called on African leaders to prioritise the development of the continent’s growing youth population.
“Posterity will not forgive us if we fail to build the potential of the youth to take the leadership of the continent,” Dr Adutwum said in a statement issued by his campaign team and copied to the Ghana News Agency after addressing a forum of African educators in Accra. He stressed that the future of Africa largely depends on the youth, urging sustained investment to prepare them for leadership.

The former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe reaffirmed his commitment to economically empower the NPP youth if given the mandate as the party’s flagbearer for Election 2028. “I have a broader vision of the youth of our party because they remain the gatekeepers of the NPP and my presidential ambition,” the statement said, adding that the welfare of young people remains a central priority in his agenda.
Highlighting his contributions to national education, the statement credited Dr Adutwum with spearheading the implementation of the Free Senior High School programme, advancing STEM education, establishing new STEM schools, and upgrading TVET institutions. These, it noted, demonstrate his commitment to creating pathways for the youth to succeed. He concluded that education must go beyond preparing students for jobs, equipping them instead to create opportunities that can transform their lives and communities.
