President Mahama pledges support to develop Papao Poultry Farm into Centre of Excellence

President John Dramani Mahama has assured the National Service Authority (NSA) of the government’s commitment to transform its Papao Poultry Farm in Dome-Kwabenya into a Centre of Excellence in poultry production, training, and research.

Defying a heavy downpour during his inspection of the 100,000-bird capacity project—currently holding 70,000 birds—the President commended the NSA and the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment for their efforts. He promised additional support, including poultry processing plants, a hostel, vehicles, and a solar power system, to make the farm a model for West Africa.

President Mahama also announced the upcoming launch of the Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti Project, designed to expand poultry production nationwide. The project will support large-, medium-, and small-scale producers with millions of day-old chicks, feed, vaccination, and government buy-back arrangements. Processing plants will also be established across the country to package locally produced chicken under the Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti brand for supermarkets and cold stores.

He projected that within three years, Ghana could achieve near self-sufficiency in poultry production, drastically reducing imports.

Madam Ruth Dela Seddoh, Acting Director-General of the NSA, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to unlocking opportunities in agriculture, business, IT, and other sectors to empower young graduates.
