President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the expanded Zonda Tec Ghana vehicle assembly facility in Tema, reaffirming the government’s commitment to building a stronger domestic automotive industry anchored on local production, skills development and value addition.
President Mahama said Ghana’s automotive sector must evolve from assembling vehicles with imported parts to developing a fully integrated local supply chain, with Ghanaian enterprises producing components and supporting services for the industry.

He encouraged increased investment in the manufacture of batteries, tyres, wiring systems, seats, glass, plastics and metal components, creating opportunities for local businesses and expanding employment across the value chain.
The President also called for accessible, longer-term vehicle financing to enable more Ghanaians, including public sector workers, to acquire locally assembled vehicles and stimulate demand for Made-in-Ghana automobiles.
He said Ghana’s mineral resources and renewable energy potential provide an opportunity to build an automotive ecosystem that connects mineral resources to battery production, vehicle manufacturing and ultimately exports.
The Phase III expansion, with a reported annual production capacity of 12,000 vehicles, further strengthens Ghana’s drive to position manufacturing as a key pillar of economic transformation.
