Sunyani Technical University refutes allegations of sex-for-grades scandal

The management of Technical University (STU) has vehemently denied accusations of a sex-for-grades scandal involving lecturers at the institution. Following thorough investigations into the allegations made by former SRC President, Mr. Owusu Agyekum, the university authorities found no substantiated evidence to support the claims.

In a press statement signed by Professor Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, the Vice Chancellor of STU, the university emphasized that despite extensive inquiries spanning over two months, neither Mr. Owusu Agyekum nor any other individual could provide concrete evidence to corroborate the allegations. Consequently, the university management asserted that Mr. Agyekum's accusations were unfounded and baseless.

The university urged Mr. Agyekum to retract his allegations and issue an unreserved apology, acknowledging that the scandalous claims had tarnished the institution's hard-earned reputation. This refutation comes after STU formed a committee on February 14, 2024, to investigate the allegations made by Mr. Agyekum.

The committee, chaired by Mr. Peter Duayah, the Bono Regional Director of the Department of , adopted an interactive approach to gathering evidence, including meetings with Mr. Agyekum via Zoom due to his location in the . Despite assurances from Mr. Agyekum regarding the provision of evidence, the committee concluded its investigations without receiving any substantial proof, as Mr. Agyekum ceased communication and alleged victims declined to come forward.

In adherence to its zero-tolerance policy on , STU emphasizes its commitment to transparency and accountability. The full report of the committee's findings has been made available on the university's website, with copies submitted to the Minister for Education through the (GTEC). Additionally, the committee remains active, inviting individuals with credible evidence of to come forward for further investigation and appropriate action.

The statement underscores STU's dedication to upholding ethical standards and ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all its stakeholders.
