Mr. Abu Kansangbata, a former Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, has called on the government to fulfil its promises of providing quality roads to the people of the Savannah and Upper West regions. Highlighting the dire state of the Wa-Bamboi to Kumasi roads, Mr. Kansangbata emphasized the urgent need for action in light of the government's declaration of the “Year of Roads.”
He lamented the gruelling 17 to 18-hour journey from Accra to Wa, citing not only inconvenience but also endangerment of lives due to the hazardous conditions of the route. The deteriorating Wa-Kumasi Highway, vital for Trans-Ecowas trade, has become perilous, posing risks to travellers and hindering regional connectivity.
Mr. Kansangbata noted the outrage among citizens of the Upper West and Savannah Regions, demanding immediate government intervention to address the crumbling infrastructure. The failure to fulfil promises of development, including the transformation of the Kparigu Dam into a large-scale irrigation and hydro-power system, has exacerbated frustrations in the neglected communities.
Despite promises made during the 2016 election campaign and subsequent years, Mr. Kansangbata emphasized the lack of tangible development projects in Northern communities. He urged the government to prioritize infrastructure investments to uplift the regions and fulfil its commitments to the people.
