The Chairman of Parliament's Mines and Energy Committee, Samuel Atta Akyea, has revealed that the committee has held discussions with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) regarding the ongoing power outages, colloquially known as “dumsor.” These discussions aimed to address the challenges and ensure effective management of the situation.
Atta Akyea disclosed that ECG has acknowledged a shortfall in power generation, which has led to the widespread outages experienced across the country. Following the engagement, the committee urged ECG management to provide a load-shedding timetable to the public, allowing citizens to plan their activities accordingly.
Speaking to the press after the meeting with stakeholders in the power industry on Sunday, April 7, Atta Akyea assured Ghanaians that the committee would closely monitor the situation to ensure the timely release of the timetable. He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in managing power outages, stating that citizens should be informed about when to expect power supply interruptions.
GridCo recently reported ECG to the Energy Minister for failing to issue a load-shedding timetable, despite requests from the National System Control Centre (NSCC). GridCo warned that ECG's reluctance to provide a timetable poses a significant risk to the stability of the national grid and could lead to disruptions in power supply for customers.
