The Management of the Tema General Hospital has refuted media reports suggesting that a baby died due to a power outage at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on Tuesday night.
In a statement signed by Dr. Richard Anthony, the Medical Director, the hospital clarified that no lives were lost as a result of the reported power outage. The hospital addressed a circulating video on social media purportedly depicting the incident, emphasizing that the claims were inaccurate.
According to the statement, the power outage occurred on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, when the facility experienced an interruption in the national grid supply and switched to its power plant. However, the generator set up in the NICU experienced a brief disruption, but the hospital's electricians swiftly rectified the issue, restoring power to the unit until the national grid supply resumed.
The statement highlighted that power was restored within two hours by the facility's electricians, reaffirming the hospital's commitment to prioritizing the health and safety of its patients.
