During a recent visit by the Ghana Agency (GNA) to the market, traders expressed their desire for significant upgrades to the market infrastructure, highlighting its historical significance and potential for revitalization. Madam Rejoice Adzo, a former Assembly member and Market Queen, called on the government to intervene and restore the market to its former prominence, citing its past role as a bustling trading hub attracting merchants from various regions.

Furthermore, drivers operating in the vicinity of the market echoed the need for improvements to the town roads connecting to the market. They lamented the poor road conditions, which hindered their ability to transport goods and traders efficiently, leading to challenges such as tyre damage due to potholes.

Established around the 15th Century, Market has historically been a vital centre for trade in the , particularly for fish, salt, and vegetables. However, despite its rich history, the market has experienced a decline in recent years. The Keta Municipal Assembly took steps to address some of these challenges by renovating existing structures and constructing new sheds in 2021 using internally generated funds (IGF).
