Janet's loss today dealt a blow to Ghana's Olympic hopes, leaving Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey as the nation's sole contender for a slot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Allotey, competing in the Flyweight -51kg category, is set to face South Korean opponent Inkyu Kim on Sunday in a crucial match for a place in the quarterfinals.
The disappointment for Ghana continued as the five other Ghanaian boxers, including Sanuel Takyi, at the competition either suffered defeat or were disqualified, effectively eliminating them from contention in the Italy qualifiers.
With this setback, all eyes now turn to the last window of opportunity for qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics, which will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, in June.
