Ministry of Finance faces disconnection from ECG over GH¢1 million debt

The is on the verge of being disconnected from the national grid due to an outstanding electricity debt totalling GH¢1 million. Over the past ten months, the ministry has been consuming electricity without settling its monthly bills, resulting in the accumulation of substantial debt.

Sources within the (ECG) have revealed that despite repeated attempts to address the issue, the has failed to release funds to various municipal and district assemblies to settle their electricity debts. This failure to address outstanding payments has prompted the decision by ECG to disconnect the Ministry of Finance from the national grid.

The decision to disconnect the Ministry of Finance serves as a signal to authorities regarding the importance of addressing outstanding debts and fulfilling financial obligations. A team from ECG is expected to engage with the Minister for Finance, Dr Amin Adam, in an effort to reach a consensus and resolve the issue.

In addition to pursuing the Ministry of Finance, ECG is also seeking to address a significant debt owed by Ghana's , totalling GH¢23 million. The ECG national task force has indicated that if the debt owed by is not settled promptly, measures will be taken to disconnect Parliament from the national grid as well.

The situation underscores the importance of timely payment of bills and the need for accountability in financial management. Failure to address outstanding debts not only affects the operations of essential government institutions but also puts additional strain on the national power distributor and its ability to provide uninterrupted electricity services to the public.
