The Ivorian national football team soared ten places to 39th in the latest FIFA Men's World Rankings, underscoring their stellar performance on home soil during the recently concluded AFCON (African Cup of Nations) tournament. The rankings, released just four days after the AFCON's conclusion, reflect the noteworthy impacts of recent continental competitions on the global football stage, particularly among African teams.
While the top ten remained unchanged, the CAF (Confederation of African Football) region witnessed substantial shifts in rankings. Nigeria, the AFCON runners-up, surged 14 places to 28th, showcasing their strong tournament performance. Angola experienced the most significant leap, climbing 24 spots to 93rd, following their impressive run in the competition.
Senegal, despite an exit in the round of 16 against Cote d'Ivoire, reached their highest-ever position at 17th, emphasizing the tournament's transformative effect on their global standing. Other African teams showing notable improvements include Equatorial Guinea (79th, up 9), South Africa (58th, up 8), Cabo Verde (65th, up 8), Namibia (107th, up 8), and Mali (47th, up 4).
