During a public forum in Takoradi organized by Parliament to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the fourth republican Parliament, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Constituency and Deputy Minority Leader, expressed apprehension regarding the state of infrastructural development in the Western Region.
Mr. Buah lamented that the region was falling behind in terms of essential infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, and schools, all of which required immediate attention. He underscored the significance of the Western Region, often regarded as the “breadbasket” of the country and stressed its entitlement to its fair share of national resources.
Highlighting the disparity, Mr Buah remarked, “In a Region that just this year gave Ghana GHS1.4 billion from oil proceeds, we say developing the Western Region is in the interest of the country.” He called upon policymakers to accelerate efforts and implement measures aimed at boosting socio-economic development and elevating the living standards of the region's inhabitants.
Responding to these concerns, Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister, acknowledged the existing developmental gaps in the region. He assured that the government was actively working to address these challenges, signalling a commitment to ameliorate the infrastructural deficiencies highlighted by Mr Buah.
