Ghanaian middleweight boxer, Elvis Ahorgah, faced a formidable challenge as Hassan Mwakinyo of emerged victorious in the Organization (WBO) Africa Middleweight Championship held at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar. The event, aptly billed as “Mtata Mtatuzi” (The Problem Solver), saw Mwakinyo demonstrating his prowess and resilience.

The bout reached its climax in the seventh round when Mwakinyo delivered a formidable performance, sending Ahorgah to the canvas twice. In response to the relentless assault, the Ghanaian referee, May Mensah Akakpo, intervened and stopped the contest, declaring Mwakinyo the winner.

Mwakinyo's victory was acknowledged by Mr. Samir Captan, President of WBO Africa, who presented the championship belt to the Tanzanian boxer. Captan highlighted that winning the WBO Africa title provided an opportunity for Mwakinyo to be ranked among the best in the and extended congratulations to the new champion.

Ghana, known for producing WBO Africa champions, saw a notable representation in the lightweight category with Sheriff Quaye, featherweight with John Laryea, and super welterweight with Jacob Tetteh—all from the Bronx Gym. Osman Haruna, now associated with the James Town Gym, also contributed to Ghana's presence among the WBO Africa champions.
