70% say Ghana is on the right track, up from 22% last year

President John Dramani Mahama

A new national poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics reveals overwhelming public approval for President John Dramani Mahama‘s performance since assuming office, with 84% of Ghanaians expressing satisfaction with his leadership.

The survey, conducted from January 30 to February 1, 2025, also highlights a significant shift in public perception of the country’s direction. Seventy percent (70%) of respondents believe Ghana is headed in the right direction, a dramatic improvement from the 22% recorded a year ago. Meanwhile, only 16% feel the country is on the wrong path, down from 68% last year.

On economic conditions, 32% of Ghanaians say their standard of living has improved, while 50% see no change and 8% report a decline. However, optimism for the future is strong, with 78% expecting an improvement in their standard of living over the next year—compared to just 32% in January 2024.

Regarding President Mahama’s ministerial appointments, 90% of respondents expressed satisfaction, with 68% stating they are “very satisfied” or “extremely satisfied.”

The poll also assessed the work of the Parliamentary Appointments Committee. While 63% of respondents are satisfied with the committee’s performance, 37% are not. Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor received a 56% approval rating, but Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin fared worse, with 64% expressing dissatisfaction with his role.

Concerns were raised about the vetting process, with 77% agreeing that it is being used to score political points rather than assess nominees’ competence. Additionally, 79% of respondents supported the Speaker of Parliament‘s decision to suspend four MPs involved in a recent altercation.

The survey, based on a sample of 952 respondents, has a margin of error of ±3.2% and was conducted via live interviews and online surveys.
