Foreign minister checks on injured Ghanaians in UAE amid conflict

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has visited the United Arab Emirates to assess the welfare of Ghanaians following recent hostilities in the Middle East.

He confirmed that three Ghanaians injured during the conflict are recovering, including Philip Degbevi, who sustained injuries from a missile attack at Dubai Airport.

He commended the UAE authorities for their support to the affected Ghanaians and stated that the Government of Ghana is committed to ensuring that all victims are adequately compensated.

He said the government will continue to provide consular assistance and support to victims and Ghanaians living in Gulf countries during the period of heightened tensions.

The Minister also met with the leadership of the Ghanaian community in the UAE and assured them of government support.

He noted that about 60,000 Ghanaians live in the UAE, working in fields including aviation, engineering, education, business, domestic service and hospitality.

He further commended Ghana’s Ambassador and Consul General for their work.
