ACCRA, 4 May 2026 – The National Identification Authority (NIA), in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), will resume Ghana Card registration for children aged 6 to 14 in the Volta and Oti Regions effective 5 May 2026.
The exercise is part of a nationwide effort to register about 3.1 million children to deepen inclusion and strengthen the national identity system. The Volta and Oti Regions mark the start of a phased rollout across the country, with each phase expected to last at least 21 days.

Registration teams will move from school to school, both public and private, with registration conducted daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Children in this age bracket who are not in school may visit designated schools or centres in their area.
Parents or guardians must present a child’s original birth certificate, a valid Ghanaian passport or a certificate of acquired citizenship. In the absence of these, a parent, relative or legal guardian may complete an Oath of Identity form, while two Social Welfare Officers may vouch for children without known relatives.
Parents and guardians who have enrolled children on the NHIS are encouraged to present the child’s NHIS card or number. Persons presenting children must be Ghanaian, at least 18 years old, of sound mind and in possession of a valid Ghana Card.
Children registered during the 2024 pilot phase who have not yet received their cards are to visit the NIA District Office where they registered to obtain their cards.
The NIA urged parents, guardians and Social Welfare Officers in the Volta and Oti Regions to participate and cautioned that providing false information or registering a non-Ghanaian is an offence punishable by law.
The Authority said it remains committed to delivering a secure, inclusive and reliable national identity system.
