In a celebration of agricultural excellence, Mr. Morro Fuseini, a 45-year-old farmer from Adamso-Nyamebekyere in the Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, has been honored as the District Best Farmer.
With an impressive 25 years of farming experience, Mr. Fuseini manages 14 acres of oil palm, three acres each of cassava and plantain, a cocoa plantation, and livestock.
In recognition of his dedication, Mr. Fuseini was presented with a generous award package, including a motorcycle, two sprayers, 10 cutlasses, a 40-inch television set, and 12 pieces of wax print.
The accolade was part of the 39th National Farmers' Day celebration held at Takyikrom, where 14 other outstanding farmers and agricultural officers were also acknowledged.
Mr. Alex Blankson, the Member of Parliament for the area, emphasized the significance of Farmers' Day in motivating farmers to contribute to food security.
He commended the Akrofuom farmers, including the District Chief Executive, Dr. Maurice Jonas Woode, for their remarkable efforts in supporting the local economy.
Highlighting government interventions to improve agriculture, Mr. Blankson urged farmers to leverage these programs to enhance their productivity.
He encouraged awardees to remain motivated, work harder, and avoid complacency for future opportunities.
The Member of Parliament announced initiatives to support farmers, including the distribution of coconut seedlings and palm nut seedlings through the Minerals Development Fund.
He pledged personal contributions of 25,000 to 30,000 palm nut seedlings to boost local production for a proposed palm oil factory.
Dr. Woode underscored the district's significant role in cocoa production and called for support from COCOBOD to enhance their work.
He encouraged youth participation in farming, citing the Planting for Food and Jobs Phase II and Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) programs as avenues for growth.
Under PERD, the Akrofuom District Assembly distributed 75,200 coconut and 165,000 palm tree seedlings to farmers.
Dr. Woode highlighted ongoing infrastructure improvements, including market construction and road development, to facilitate the transportation and sale of agricultural products in the district.
Mr. Richard Amo Koranteng, the District Director of Agriculture, echoed the theme for this year's Farmers Day, “Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience,” as a reflection of the government's commitment to the success of agriculture in Ghana.
