Ghana has renewed its commitment to building an inclusive digital economy where every citizen, including persons with disabilities, women entrepreneurs, rural businesses and young traders, can participate in and benefit from digital trade.

In a speech read on her behalf at a capacity-building workshop on Inclusive E-Commerce and Digital Trade held in Accra on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare (MP), said Ghana’s digital transformation agenda must ensure that no group is left behind.

The Minister described the workshop as a significant step towards making Ghana’s digital economy work for all citizens, not only those with access to internet connectivity, devices, urban infrastructure or digital skills.

She noted that Government, in partnership with UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, UNDP and UNCDF under the Joint SDG Fund, had worked over the past two years to develop Ghana’s National E-Commerce Strategy.

According to her, e-commerce is rapidly becoming a central platform for modern trade, with micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), farmers, entrepreneurs and traders increasingly required to engage customers online.

Speaking at the opening session, Martine Julsaint Kidane of UN Trade and Development highlighted the growing importance of e-commerce in expanding economic participation.

She noted that digital technologies were creating opportunities for entrepreneurship, innovation, trade and job creation across Africa by helping businesses access larger markets and participate more actively in value chains.

The workshop supports Ghana’s efforts to implement its National E-Commerce Strategy, which provides a roadmap for creating a stronger environment for digital trade and ensuring that e-commerce contributes to sustainable development.
