Ghana and China reaffirm commitment to strengthen strategic partnership

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana has announced that the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has held talks with the Ambassador of China, Cong Song, to deepen bilateral cooperation.

The meeting, held on April 13, 2026, focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Ghana and the People’s Republic of China.

Hon. Ablakwa congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and urged the timely completion of ongoing projects, including the Aflao Market and Damongo University.

He also highlighted Ghana’s readiness to expand cooperation into environmental reclamation and public education to address illegal mining.

He expressed optimism that the implementation of the zero-tariff policy would boost industrial growth and help address Ghana’s trade deficit.

Ambassador Song reaffirmed China’s commitment to trade, infrastructure development, and people-to-people exchanges, adding that processes for the zero-tariff arrangement were advanced and would support Ghana’s exports.

He also reiterated China’s support for completing ongoing projects and stated that China does not endorse illegal mining.

Both sides upheld their commitment to continued collaboration for development.
