Splenda Ghana, an importer of Splenda Zero Calories and Splenda Stevia Sweeteners has made a generous donation of its products, “Splenda Sweeteners,” worth thousands of cedis to eleven diabetic health facilities in the Greater and Eastern regions.

Additionally, the donation extends to the Community 22 Clinic, La Polyclinic, Polyclinic, the Eastern Regional Hospital, and Matthew 25 Clinic.

Mrs Maabena Webb, the Managing Director of Brighter Purpose Group Limited and the Team Lead for Splenda Ghana, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the company's Corporate Social Responsibility () of promoting healthy living and is part of the activities to commemorate the 2023 Diabetes Day (WDD).

Diabetes Day, marked on November 14 every year, was instituted in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the (WHO) to address the escalating health threat posed by diabetes globally.

Diabetes, a chronic metabolic disease characterized by high blood glucose levels, leads to severe damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves. WHO statistics indicate that 24 million adults are living with diabetes in Africa, with the number expected to rise by 129 percent to 55 million by 2045.

Mrs Webb highlighted the importance of the Splenda product in managing diabetes, stating, “Splenda, a global brand of sugar substitutes in the management of diabetes, supports medical advice to diabetics and non-diabetics on the consumption of regular sugar, which is high in calories and raises blood glucose levels.”

She further emphasized Splenda Ghana's commitment to educating Ghanaians and Africans about the risks of diabetes and supporting those diagnosed with the condition.

As a member of the Blue Circle Voices Network, an IDF diabetes advocacy group, Mrs Webb shared her experience with gestational diabetes and advised Ghanaians to adopt healthy lifestyles.

Mr Baffour Ohene-Kena, the Head of Administration and Human Resources at Splenda Ghana, echoed the theme for the 2023 World Diabetes Day, “Know Your Risk,” emphasizing the importance of prioritizing health by living better lifestyles.

He urged persons living with diabetes to follow their doctors' instructions and actively engage in managing their health.

Established in November 2020, Splenda Ghana serves as a subsidiary of Brighter Purpose Group (BPG) Limited, focusing on driving initiatives in Ghana and Africa.
