Verna Natural Mineral Water has clinched the top prize as the Product of the Year at the Ghana Beverage Awards (GBA) 2023. The event recognized excellence in the beverage industry across various categories, with 20 other products also receiving awards.
Among the winners were Vitalmilk Energy, Koa Natural Cocoa Fruit Juice, Reign Baobab and Hibiscus, Adonko Bitters, Voltic Natural Mineral Water, Bel Cola, Jonnie Walker, Orijin RTD, Bailey Irish Cream, Heineken, Reign Rum, and Smirnoff.
Senator Benedict Murray-Bruce, Chairman of the Silverbird Group and guest of honour at the event, commended the Global Media Alliance (GBA) for organizing the awards to promote Ghanaian businesses. He urged consumers to support indigenous companies by choosing locally produced products, emphasizing the importance of boosting the economy and creating job opportunities.
Expressing concern about the impact of imported goods on the local economy, Senator Murray-Bruce called on the government to strengthen border controls to protect domestic industries. He emphasized the need to prioritize Ghanaian products over foreign alternatives to foster economic growth and stability.
Mr. Mark Okraku-Mantey, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Art, and Culture, praised the GBA for its ongoing efforts to recognize the beverage industry's contribution to job creation and revenue generation. He highlighted the government's commitment to making tourism a key driver of economic growth and called for continued support from industry stakeholders.
Mr. Ernest Boateng, Group Chief Executive Officer of Global Media Alliance, highlighted the vital role of the beverage industry in socio-economic development and sustainability. He commended industry players for their initiatives in recycling and waste management, which contribute to a more sustainable future.
The incorporation of the Sustainability Champion of the Year category in this year's awards reflects the industry's dedication to environmental responsibility and sustainability practices.
As the beverage industry celebrates its achievements, Mr. Boateng urged continued collaboration and commitment to building a more sustainable future for all.
