The students of Technical University (TaTu) are calling on the management of the institution to urgently address the concerns of their striking lecturers. According to the students, they will face a financial burden and mental stress if the strike persists.

The TaTU branch of the Technical University Association of Ghana (TUTAG) declared an indefinite strike on Wednesday, May 10, overpayment discrepancies and non-payment of allowances. The strike has affected students who were left with their final papers for the end-of-semester exams.

Seidu John Paul, the Students' Representative Council (SRC) President of the university, said the strike has affected students both financially and psychologically.

He added that students thought they were finishing their exams, but they were unable to write their last paper due to the strike.

Paul explained that the students gave out their foodstuffs and booked tickets home, but now they are stranded on campus with nothing. Paul pleaded with TUTAG to consider their decision and return to the classroom.

“We want to appeal to TUTAG to consider their decision and return to the classroom, and we will be grateful if the government can also intervene,” said John Paul.

Meanwhile, the university management has said it is taking steps to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
