Menzgold Trial Investor testifies of unfulfilled promises in Court: Ghana News

Mr. Edward Out Larbie, a sales manager, appeared as the second prosecution witness in the trial of Nana Appiah Mensah, the CEO of Menzgold Ghana Limited.

During his testimony at the High Court, Larbie claimed that Menzgold denied him dividends on his investments, stating that promises made by the accused and the company were never fulfilled.

In his evidence, Mr. Larbie expressed disappointment, stating, “I believed in the company so much, but all the promises made were not met.”

Nana Mensah is facing charges including abetment, defrauding by pretenses, carrying on deposit-taking business without a license, unlawful deposit-taking, and money laundering.

The accused, Nana Mensah, has denied the charges, with the plea to the amended charges yet to be taken.

The court had earlier granted him bail on July 26, 2019, in the sum of GH₵1 billion with specific bail conditions, including reporting to the police every Wednesday.

During the trial, Mr. Kwame Akufo, Counsel for NAM 1, objected to certain paragraphs in Larbie's witness statement, arguing that the witness was not competent to speak on issues concerning joint investments with another individual, Isaac Kojo Okyere.

The defense claimed there was no evidence that Larbie was authorized to make a criminal complaint.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Yvonne Attakora-Obuobisa, opposed the objection, asserting that Larbie was competent to testify on the disputed paragraphs.

The court ruled in favor of the prosecution, stating that Larbie had personal knowledge of the matters contained in the paragraphs.

The case has been adjourned to Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
