Proponents of the Promotion of Proper Sexual Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, commonly known as the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, have issued a strong warning to schools and media firms, urging them to refrain from promoting LGBTQ-related activities.
The group expressed concern that some international schools in the country have already begun promoting such acts, which goes against the law.
After the conclusion of the parliamentary debate on the anti-gay Bill, the proponents, including Ningo-Prampram MP, Nartey George, and Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, addressed journalists in Parliament to emphasize the consequences for institutions that promote LGBTQ+ acts.
Sam George, the MP for Ningo-Prampram, stated, “There are schools in Ghana that are beginning to introduce elements of LGBTQ+ and CSE in their operations already.
They may claim to be foreign schools, but no school can operate in Ghana outside the laws of the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Those schools should take notice that the Ministry of Education will be duly informed of their activities, and sanctions will be applied accordingly.”
Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, the Assin South MP, added, “We are also not going to tolerate any media house that provides a platform for advocacy, propaganda, and promotion of LGBTQ+ and its related activities.
Such actions are abhorred and frowned upon. We urge all media houses to join us in this stance.”
